I learned to make gravy from scratch pretty early on. It is easier than most people think.

Directions

  1. Put everything except the one cup hot water and cornstarch in a large dutch oven.
  2. Simmer for 3-4 hours.
  3. Run liquid through a strainer and return to pan.
  4. Discard solids.
  5. Dissolve cornstarch in water and add to liquid.
  6. Whisk constantly for three minutes or until thickened.
