  1. Preheat oven to 350°F.
  2. Beat butter with sugar and molasses.
  3. Mix in egg.
  4. Sift together dry ingredients and then add to wet mixture, alternating with boiling water.
  5. Mix until just combined.
  6. Bake in greased 9-inch bread pan - 40 minutes.
  7. Cool.
