  • Bring the ginger and plain water to a boil; then reduce heat to low and simmer for 5 minutes.
  • Remove from heat and cover.
  • Let steep an additional 10 minutes.
  • Strain and add carbonated water and lemon juice just before serving as well as cayenne powder if using.
