- 1 teaspoon gingerroot, freshly grated
- 2 cups water
- 1 cup carbonated water
- 1 lemon, juice of
- 1 pinch cayenne powder (optional)

- Bring the ginger and plain water to a boil; then reduce heat to low and simmer for 5 minutes.
- Remove from heat and cover.
- Let steep an additional 10 minutes.
- Strain and add carbonated water and lemon juice just before serving as well as cayenne powder if using.
