Gerry's Chili

"This is a chili recipe I put together from a bunch of recipes to get the taste I wanted. This is a flavorful chili. Can be served with sour cream or cheese topping for a great taste. We made this for a church supper a while back and had people coming back for seconds, thirds and fourths and commenting on how good the chili was. Enjoy!!!"

  • Brown hamburger & onions. Drain. Add tomatoes, tomato sauce, beans, and dry ingredients. Mix together.
  • Make sure all the dry ingredients are blended together before adding to the liquid. Simmer for at least one hour. Remove bay leaf. Much better the next day. Freezes very well.
  • 1 (15 ounce) can tomato sauce plus 1/2 teaspoon Italian seasoning can be substituted for the Italian tomato sauce.

  1. Quick, easy, and tastes awesome! The recipe is great as-is, but also lends itself well to modification (see some of the other reviews for examples). Keeping this one on file for later!

  2. This was really delicious chili! I usually make chili starting with Brooks Chili Beans which are already flavored and I add what I want to them. But I wanted something new that was from scratch. The only thing I did differently was I added 2 cloves of crushed garlic and a touch of thyme. My family and I really liked it! Thank you for the great recipe!

  3. Really delicious! Made this for Halloween '09 and then again for Superbowl. First time I made it exactly as posted and then the second time I added tri-tip instead of the hamburger. Both were great and have had rave reviews by everyone who tasted it!

  4. Wonderfully versatile! The sauce has just the right amount of sweetness. It lends itself well to additions. I didn't have celery seed and used dill, and it turned out well. I also used leftover bbq as the meat. A little yogurt on top makes it divine!

  5. Wonderful chili! The only deviation I made was to use chunks of cut up steak instead of hamburger. The flavors and texture were amazing!
