Vanilla sugar is often used in German baking. It can be used in a recipe as well as give the final touches to cakes, pies and cookies. This recipe is simple to prepare and is great to have on hand when needed.
- Place sugar in a 1-2 quart glass jar that has a tight fitting scew-on lid.
- Cut vanilla bean so it fits into jar and push it down into the sugar.
- Place lit tightly on jar and allow to sit for at least 3 day before using.
- ~NOTE~ This will keep for a very long time. As you use the sugar, you can replace it. The vanilla bean will be good as long as it is fragrant.
This was a great recipe. I like to add it to my coffee, even tea as well. I used this instead of regular sugar in my Cowboy cookies... very tasty. Followed exactly as directed. And now I have a new item to add to Christmas baskets.. Thanks for posting a WINNING and simple recipe!!!
This is really, really good. Usually I fill half the container with caster sugar before adding my whole vanilla bean, then I top it off with more sugar. I set it aside for at least 7 days before I start using it. Thanks for posting this recipe! :)
