Great recipe but I made a chocolate cheesecake filling instead just to change it up. I have made the recipe as stated so its a great way to get a cheesecake without the long wait a traditional cheescake will take to make.
Made this a day ahead of time, but was definetly better the second day. 4 stars for the cake, 5 stars for the frosting. May try again with Butter Pecan cake mix. Will make again for sure.

This made a great cake! I love the texture of the cake with the cream cheese filling. The icing turned out great too. I am going to try it with other cake mix and topping varieties too.
Wow! I made this for my DH for his birthday cake. He really, really was impressed with the flavor and overall cake itself! I followed the cake directions to a "T". I used my sister's frosting recipe which is very similar to yours. She changed a few things in hers to use the whole 12 oz can of evaporated milk. All the ingredients are the same - just the amounts are changed a bit. We will be making this again! Most everyone here are German Chocolate cake fans AND cream cheese fans. We can't go wrong with this recipe! Thanks for posting.
this is a great cake. everytime i take it somewhere, i end up giving out the recipe. Tastes best the next day for sure after being refrigerated.....and nothing beats the homemade frosting.
