    This sandwich is from a St Louis deli. It's really good for a cold night without a lot of time. Great with chips and a pickle.

    Ingredients:

    Directions:

      Slice the loaf of bread lengthwise.
    2. 2
      Place on a cookie sheet.
    3. 3
      Spread butter on both pieces of bread.
    4. 4
      Put a layer of ham on both pieces of bread.
    5. 5
      Top it with a layer of cheese.
    6. 6
      Sprinkle with paprika if desired.

      Note: This is an open-face sandwich.

      Put in 350°F oven for about 15 minutes or until cheese is melted.

      You may need to adjust the quantities of ingredients depending on your taste.

      I love gerber sandwiches. However, I should note that true St Louis style ones use provel. Unfortunately, it's impossible to find outside of St Louis. However, provel is a blend of Provellone, Cheddar, and Swiss, so I generally try to blend these (although I haven't figured out just the right blend yet).

      I was so surprised after I made this sandwich tonight! It is sooo easy, yet delicious! I cooked it at 400 instead of 350 for 15 minutes(due to my own mistake) but it turned out delicious! Next time I may try it with mozzarella cheese, but it really is delicious exactly the way it is. And the pickles and chips are a must!
