Garlic Grilled Steaks (Basting Sauce)

  • With a mortar and pestle, combine the garlic, salt and pepper. Add the oil, lemon juice and mix to form a paste.
  • Grill steaks, covered, over medium heat for 6-8 minutes on each side or until meat reaches desired doneness (for medium-rare, a meat thermometer should read 145°; medium, 160°; well-done, 170°. Brush with garlic mixture during the last few minutes of grilling. Let stand for 3-5 minutes before serving.

  2. Very nice recipe! We are lovers of garlic, so this appealed to me right away.I didn't use my mortar & pestle, instead I ran the garlic through my garlic press, then added the rest of the ingredients. I only added a touch of salt to the sauce, instead salting the meat before cooking. I loved that this sauce is a last minute kind of thing, since it made it much easier for a weeknight barbeque. I used one rib eye and 2 small lamb chops, as I love lamb, but DH isn't a fan. Thanks for a great recipe! Made for ZWT5 by one of the Cooks with Dirty Faces.
     
  3. What is it about steak and garlic? You can just never go wrong with a good steak and garlic. My bone in rib steak was very happy with this marvelous basting sauce and so was I. I wouldn't change a single thing and can't wait to use this with chicken and pork. So Good!
     
  4. Great steak! I liked Ingrid's idea of pressing the garlic, so did that. I grilled a rib eye on my stove top grill and this was really easy and tasted great. Thanks diner for a nice, quick, tasty meal. Made for All You Can Cook Buffet special.

I subscribe to several cooking magazines, that usually, require everyday on-hand ingredients. <br /><br />I am not very fond of most seafood, but do enjoy lobster, grilled shrimp and chilean sea bass. I won't cook anything with rosemary or curry, as I really don't like either herbs' flavor.
