- 2 cups packed brown sugar
- 1 cup butter, softened
- 2 large eggs
- 1 teaspoon vanilla
- 2 1⁄2 cups flour
- 1 teaspoon baking soda
- 1⁄2 teaspoon salt
- 3 cups quick oats

TOPPING
- 1 (12 ounce) package milk chocolate chips
- 1 (14 ounce) can sweetened condensed milk
- 2 tablespoons butter
- 1 cup chopped nuts
- 1 teaspoon vanilla
- 1⁄2 teaspoon salt
directions
- Preheat oven to 350°.
- Grease 10x15 jellyroll pan.
- In a large bowl, mix brown sugar, 1 c butter, 2 eggs, and 1 tsp vanilla.
- Stir in flor, baking soda, and 1/2 tsp salt.
- Stir in oats.
- Press oatmeal mixture into prepared pan.
- Melt chocolate chips with sweetened condensed milk and 2 Tbsp butter in saucepan over low heat, stirring until melted.
- Remove from heat and stir in nuts, 1 tsp vanilla and 1/2 tsp salt.
- Spread over oatmeal base.
- Bake until golden brown approximately 25-30 minutes.
- While warm, cut into bars.

I have used this same recipe for years. I typically bake them during the holidays as they are a favorite of everyone. They freeze well. I simplfy the topping by microwaving for one minute instead of stovetop cooking. I also save 1/3 of the oatmeal mix to spoon on top of topping. Pressing the bottom oatmeal mix is the most difficult of preparation. I wet my hands while pressing. My best batch was when I used a can of sweetened condensed milk that was 6 months old (it had started carmelizing in the can.) For peanut butter lovers, I add a couple of spoons of peanut butter to the oatmeal mixture
