    Rita1's Note:

A friend gave me some of these bars over the holidys and I could hardly wait to get my hands on the recipe and make some more. They are rich but, oh so good. My family and friends rave about these bars.

I have used this same recipe for years. I typically bake them during the holidays as they are a favorite of everyone. They freeze well. I simplfy the topping by microwaving for one minute instead of stovetop cooking. I also save 1/3 of the oatmeal mix to spoon on top of topping. Pressing the bottom oatmeal mix is the most difficult of preparation. I wet my hands while pressing. My best batch was when I used a can of sweetened condensed milk that was 6 months old (it had started carmelizing in the can.) For peanut butter lovers, I add a couple of spoons of peanut butter to the oatmeal mixture
