My mom used to make this cake all the time when I was a kid! It was my absolute favorite and I always requested it for my birthday. After finding it on Recipezaar (coincidentally right before my birthday) I requested that my husband and kids make it for me - wow, did that bring back memories! It was just as I remembered it - moist and delicious! Thanks for the memories!

This is an excellent cake. It also has a lot of sentimental value to me, as my great-grandmother and grandmother used to make it. Although it has been a few years now, I've made it many times as well. The only difference in their recipe and yours is that theirs called for Nestle Choco Bake for the melted chocolate, so I assume this recipe was most likely developed by the Nestle company. (Choco Bake is pre-melted, unsweetened chocolate in packets, distributed by Nestle.) I will say, though, that I made it once with chocolate I melted, rather than the Choco Bake, and really didn't think it tasted the same. Perhaps it was just my imagination, though. :) (You can definitely get better quality chocolate than Choco Bake, but sometimes we just want things to taste as we remember them.) This was certainly a family favorite when I was growing up, and I was so happy to see that you had posted the recipe. Thank you!
