Directions

  1. Stir together oatmeal and water; set aside.
  2. In large mixer bowl stir together flour, sugar, cocoa, soda, and salt.
  3. Add shortening, oatmeal mixture (that you set aside) and vanilla.
  4. Beat on low speed just until mixed.
  5. Then beat on medium speed 2 minutes, scraping bowl frequently.
  6. Add eggs; mix well.
  7. Pour into greased 9x13x2 inch pan.
  8. Bake in preheated 350 degree oven for 35 minutes or until done.
  9. Cool in pan 10 minutes then turn out on rack and cool completely.
  10. If desired, sprinkle with powdered sugar.
  11. Cut into squares and serve.
