My grandmother used lard or Crisco to brown this, but I use a littel oil or margarine. I like the taste better and it is healthier.
- Fill pot with shrdded cabbage (pack in).
- cover with water and boil down until reduced.
- Drain off water.
- pour on vinegar generously and toss.
- Drain off vinegar.
- Add salt and pepper to taste and enough olive oil or margarine to brown.
- Don't stir too much.
