My wife is half German, but usually will not eat cooked cabbage unless I make it...what a sweetheart!!! Try this as a side dish for pork roast or chops.....

Directions

  1. Remove outer leaves of cabbage & cut off the end of core.
  2. Coarsely shred the cabbage, including the core (the core's the best part) & set aside.
  3. Melt half the butter in a large skillet (cast iron works best).
  4. Add the onion & bacon -- cook, stirring occasionaly. until onion is soft & bacon is lighly browned.
  5. Remove from skillet & set aside.
  6. Melt the rest of the butter & add the shredded cabbage.
  7. Cover & cook until cabbage is somewhat limp & lightly browned, stirring occasionaly -- about 15-20 minutes.
  8. When cabbage is done, add the salt & any or all of the other listed seasonings -- cover & cook another 10 minutes.
  9. ENJOY!
