Delicious and easy side dish

Ingredients Nutrition

  • 1 head cabbage, cut into bite size chunks (of a bag of shredded cabbage)
  • 3 -5 slices bacon
  • 1 onion, chopped
  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • 1 dash apple cider vinegar
  • salt and pepper
  • 3 dashes hot sauce, to taste (optional)


  1. Chop up your bacon and render in a medium sized pan (with high sides) until nice and crispy.
  2. Throw in about 1 tablespoon of water to de-glaze the pan and saute for 4 minutes.
  3. Add in 2 tablespoons of butter and the chopped onion. Cook onion 2 - 3 minutes.
  4. Add in the cabbage salt and pepper and saute so that it's well covered with bacon drippings and butter.
  5. Turn heat to low cover, and cook until cabbage is to desired tenderness. If needed add a bit of water to help cooking (careful not to add too much). Stir occasionally.
  6. Turn off the heat and add a dash or two of apple cider vinegar, a few drops of hot sauce (optional) and salt and pepper to taste.
