"This is a fried bologna sandwich that I had often growing up. I see so many of my favorite sandwiches on here, but I didn't see this one."

  1. I grew up eating these also.If you cut small cuts all around the edge,it will keep it from cupping and will stay nice and flat.

  2. Try it with an over- hard fried egg! Awesome!

  3. Mayonnaise goes on bologna sandwiches, not mustard.

  4. Add some hot sauce to softened salted butter (4 or 5 drops). Spread salted butter mixture on to bread and grill in non stick pan placing a slice of American cheese on each slice cook until brown or blackened don't burn. Set aside. Score an X in two slices of BEEF bologna. USE BEEF BOLOGNA!!!! (Cheap bologna is cheap for a reason) Cook bologna until caramelized. Build sandwich using more hot sauce. REDNECKTASTIC!!!!

  5. Wow! This was delicious. I came across this recipe trying to figure out what I could do with thin sliced beef bologna we got from the deli. I followed the suggestion of others and made 4 slits around each piece bologna. I fried 3 pieces in butter and ate it on sourdough bread with sharp cheddar, mayo and spicy brown mustard. Yum. :)

Tweaks

  1. I really laughed when I saw this one. I thought my dad was the only one that knew how to cook this. My dad didn't cook often, but when he did, this is what he made. When he had to make breakfast, he would cook an egg and stick it in between the bologna and the cheese. He also used ketchup instead of mustard. It's still yummy to me. Thanks for posting.

  2. Lightly toast your bread first, then spread mustard on one side of bread, then spread thin layer of grape jelly on other side, fry bologna to your preference, then add slice of velveeta American cheese slices, comes in pack like American just velveeta brand, use unsalted butter infused with hot sauce (franks) or Louisiana, whatever u prefer, to fry meat in. Just few drops of hot sauce into butter then cook and make sandwiches....delicious!!!!!

  3. Although I have never tried this sandwich on white bread ( I always used tortillas), but this is an awesome recipe. I always use butter instead of the oil for the browned butter flavor. I hope this is not such a digression from the original that it is obnoxious, but fried bologna rocks. Try it with different cheese, and add veggies to suit your taste. I also like a swiss/parm. cheese with it. Go crazy..This recipe is delish! Heather
