    1. 1
Mix half the flour with the remaining dry ingredients.
    2. 2
Add water until the mixture becomes thick, "like a paper mache paste".
    3. 3
Add more flour until the dough feels like a soft earlobe.
    4. 4
Heat the oil or lard over a medium-high heat until very hot, but not smoking.
    5. 5
Break off small pieces of the dough and flatten each to the size of your palm, about 1/2-inch thick.
    6. 6
Place the pieces in the hot oil, turn after about 3 minutes, or when golden brown.
    7. 7
Place the bannock on a paper towel to soak up the excess grease.
    8. 8
      Serve plain or with jam.

Thank you sooo much for posting this! My aunts and my grandmother and my mother-in-law make the best bannock, and when I'm with them, my bannock turns out okay too! Unfortunatly, I live far away from them and whenever I try making it without thier guidance, it never comes out right. This is exactly the kind of bannock we make at home. Thank you very much for posting. Although, if my kookooms saw me cooking this with a measuring cups and spoons, I would get some gentle Again..thank you :D
