This is from an old Oregon Jr. League Cookbook and although I haven't tried it yet I'm looking forward to making it soon.

Ingredients Nutrition

  1. Core and finely dice pears, but do not peel. Sift together flour, baking powder, salt and soda. Stir in wheat germ. Beat egg slightly and blend with milk, oil, and honey. Add to dry ingredients along with pears. Stir until mixed.
  2. Make streusel topping by combining all ingredients and mixing until crumbly.
  3. Pour batter into a greased 9-inch round cake pan. Sprinkle with streusel topping. Garnish with additional pear slices, if desired. Bake at 400 degrees for 25 to 30 minutes.

This is a very nice fruit bread. I love the flavor combination of pears and honey and it really made this recipe. Smells great while cooking too! Mine came out a little dry - I may add less wheat germ next time. Thanks for posting this yummy recipe!

I made a double recipe of this because I had several overripe pears. It turned out delicious!!! Everyone who had it loved it! The wheat germ "melted" into the recipe & my friend thought I had used whole wheat flour. If you are in the mood for a different type (not banana or blueberry) breakfast bread, this is an excellent choice! Thanks for posting it! Margie
