  1. Boil milk with sugar and essence.
  2. Remove from heat.
  3. Set aside.
  4. Soak bread slices in milk for a few seconds without letting bread fall apart.
  5. Then dip bread slices one at a time in beaten eggs.
  6. Heat butter in a pan.
  7. Fry the slices in the butter.
  8. When golden in colour, turn the bread slices over and cook the other side.
  9. Arrange the slices in a serving dish.
  10. Sprinkle some castor sugar over the slices.
  11. Serve warm.

Yummy! This made a great change of pace from our usual Sat. morning grits. I used reduced fat butter, which I would NOT recomend. It was still delicious, but the reduced fat butter made the frying process difficult to manage.

This was fantastic. I made as directed but just used a vegetable spray instead of the butter and sprinkled a little cinnnamon on at the very end. It is difficult to find a recipe that the whole family will eat, but they loved this one. Thankyou for the recipe.
