French Onion Burgers

"I get bored with just the plain burgers. I found this recipe in Taste of Home and had marked it to save. It is a simple yet tasty sounding burger."

  • In a bowl, combine the onions, Worcestershire sauce, salt and mushrooms if using. Crumble beef over mixture and mix well. Shape into 4 patties.
  • Grill, uncovered, over medium heat or broil 4 inches from the heat for 6-9 minutes on each side or until no longer pink. Serve on buns with any condiments and toppings of your choice.

  1. Okay these would totally fall apart on the grill, but worked great in a rimmed baking sheet under the broiler. I think mine didn't fall apart because I didn't chop the mushrooms but left them sliced. They ended up being really flavorful from cooking in their own fat on the sheet pan.
     
  2. This is a GREAT tasting burger!! I couldn't find any French Fried Onion (although it must exist over here!) so I made my own,by tossing onion into milk and then flour and deep frying until crisp.I also used finely chopped fresh mushroom. The burgers were simplicity itself to make and held together beautifully while cooking...so moist and flavoursome-we didn't even want to add any sauces to them. DH is STILL raving about them,and he is the burger expert-he has already requested a repeat performance!! Another winner from you Diner-many thanks!!
     
  3. This is so easy and so tasty We loved it! I didn't add the mushrooms to the meat but fried fresh sliced ones along side the burger. Mmm enjoyed my Saterday rnight burger

  5. Sorry this didn't work for us. Followed the directions exactly. A tasteless and mushy burger. Not having good luck with some of these 5 star ratings. Sometimes I feel these ratings are written by relatives.

I don't like to cook things that require going to specialized grocery stores. I subscribe to several cooking magazines, that usually, require everyday on-hand ingredients. <br /><br />I am not very fond of most seafood, but do enjoy lobster, grilled shrimp and chilean sea bass. I won't cook anything with rosemary or curry, as I really don't like either herbs' flavor.
