this was very good and very easy. all i had in the house was a can of Progresso Onion Soup so i used that instead of the dry mix. it really does taste like a cup of French Onion Soup with toasted bread and cheese.
Easy and tasty - and cheap!! I toasted my baguette slices to within an inch of their lives, then turned the broiler on for the last few minutes of baking time. We loved this dish!
this was good, I used mozzarella cheese in place of the Swiss as that is all I had at the time, I found that one long thin baguette worked fine for this, I also seasoned with fresh ground black pepper in the layers, I will make this again next time using the Swiss cheese, thanks for sharing Kitty!
Heck yes, the best part of French onion soup IS the cheesy bread! This is a casserole of just that.... I love it! I made this as written, using a bit extra swiss cheese. I think this would be a fun potluck dish. I'll be making this again. Thanx!
Very nice recipe. I made my own onion soup, so I could control the salt, and 2 baguettes. I took it to a pot luck lunch and it was enjoyed by all. :)
This was wonderful. I made this for our Christmas dinner. I ran out of shredded cheese so I topped it with slices of swiss. My husband loved it. This would be really good as a side with a roast. Thanks alot.
WOW! I absolutely loved this- the flavour was just what I expected. I also used low fat cheese and it worked beautifully. Definitely one to make again, and again, and again. Thanks for a keeper kitty! Made for 123 Hit Wonders.
I used only a half loaf of bread and a 9x9 pan but kept all the other ingredient amount. I also used Mozzarella. I added about a cup of onions that I sauted to the soup mix. This was good but found it strange ( in a good way LOL) to have the taste of French Onion soup without all the soupiness LOL. Made for 1,2,3 Hit Wonders
made this as a side to go with steaks. It was very good. We didn't use the 2-3 cups of soup but made the packet according to directions. We used provonle cheese instead of swiss (personel prefence). I think next time we'll add sauted onions. It was very good like i said, we will definately make again. thanks for the post Jules
I like the topping of french onion soup the best too. When I saw the recipe I quickly added it to my list of things to try. It went together easily and looked beautiful. I just didn't care for it . To me it was spongy and bland bread rather than the topping of the soup I had my heart set on. I know it is a matter of personal taste so am not leaving stars. Maybe it will better fit other members expectations.
