directions

  • Soak gelatin in 1 teaspoon of water.
  • Heat orange juice and dissolve gelatin and sugar in it. Cool to lukewarm.
  • Pour orange mix into an 8x8 glass or ceramic dish (I think I'll try tupperware). Cover with plastic wrap and place in freezer until it becomes slushy, approximately 2 hours.
  • Whip cream and whisk or use mixer to combine with orange slush until no white streaks remain.
  • Return to freezer for approximately 2 more hours.
  • *If it separates, mix again.

  1. I tried this out with fresh squeezed oranges and lemons and it was FABULOUS!!!! I used 4 naval oranges and 2 lemons to get the measurements, but it was well worth the effort for the authentic flavors. I couldn't believe something so simple tasted SO amazing!!! Definintely a recipe for the books, so THANKS!

  2. Lovely!!! I used half a package of orange Jello and omitted the sugar. It turned the ice cream a beautiful orange. I also zested the (organic) orange and added the zest when heating the OJ. Would have left it in but my kids wouldn't like that, so I poured it through a sieve to remove the zest pieces. Used my ice cream maker. We had it with chocolate syrup ;-) This totally was the orange ice cream I was looking for, thank you for this delicious recipe!

  3. Very nice! After chilling, I finished this off with my Cuisinart ice cream maker, and we had the sherbet in about 30 minutes. Delicious. It really does taste like a creamsicle. Made for the Comfort Cafe.

  4. Very tasty creamsicle dessert! Mine did take much longer to freeze. I had to leave it overnight because after 6 hours, it still wasn't set, but the next morning it was perfect. Yummy. Next time I think I'll try it with pineapple juice. Thanks Engrossed!

  5. This was the kind of frozen dessert my mom loved making, & this one is every bit as nice tasting as hers was! I stuck with the sugar this time, but might just try the Splenda another time to check out the difference, if any! GREAT TASTE, & thanks for sharing!
