My Grandmother has been making this for over 50 years. Easy, Refreshing and tastes like a Creamsicle. My Grandmother says it's good served with a pork chop or chicken dinner.

Ingredients Nutrition

  • 1 teaspoon unflavored gelatin, soaked in 1 tsp water
  • 1 14 cups orange juice, heated
  • 1 cup sugar (I think I'll try Splenda)
  • 14 cup lemon juice
  • 1 cup whipping cream, whipped (not heavy)

  1. Soak gelatin in 1 teaspoon of water.
  2. Heat orange juice and dissolve gelatin and sugar in it. Cool to lukewarm.
  3. Pour orange mix into an 8x8 glass or ceramic dish (I think I'll try tupperware). Cover with plastic wrap and place in freezer until it becomes slushy, approximately 2 hours.
  4. Whip cream and whisk or use mixer to combine with orange slush until no white streaks remain.
  5. Return to freezer for approximately 2 more hours.
  6. *If it separates, mix again.

I tried this out with fresh squeezed oranges and lemons and it was FABULOUS!!!! I used 4 naval oranges and 2 lemons to get the measurements, but it was well worth the effort for the authentic flavors. I couldn't believe something so simple tasted SO amazing!!! Definintely a recipe for the books, so THANKS!

Lovely!!! I used half a package of orange Jello and omitted the sugar. It turned the ice cream a beautiful orange. I also zested the (organic) orange and added the zest when heating the OJ. Would have left it in but my kids wouldn't like that, so I poured it through a sieve to remove the zest pieces. Used my ice cream maker. We had it with chocolate syrup ;-) This totally was the orange ice cream I was looking for, thank you for this delicious recipe!

Very nice! After chilling, I finished this off with my Cuisinart ice cream maker, and we had the sherbet in about 30 minutes. Delicious. It really does taste like a creamsicle. Made for the Comfort Cafe.
