I really enjoyed this dessert. I just thought it was really rich.
these are seriously addicting. I followed the previous reviewers suggestions and cut down the sugar a bit -- I used 1 1/2 cups instead of 2. however, I think it would have been okay with 2. in retrospect, my biggest concern would have been that the 1/2 c. of sugar would have resulted in too much batter, because I also baked mine in an 8x8 pan. in that size pan, I baked the cake for about 25 minutes in a 350 oven and it was perfect. I loved these.
This is a nice, easy recipe, but be aware: they're really sweet. When I make this recipe again (and I definitely will be making this again) I will probably halve the sauce ingredients and cut down on the brown sugar in the crust ingredients in order to curb some of the sweetness. I used an 8X8 in glass pan, so the bars turned out really thick, and my family and I enjoyed them that way. Also, I used chopped walnuts for the nuts and Hershey's Special dark chocolate chips, and they both worked great!
