"Traditional accompaniment for fried fish"

ingredients

• 1 cup white cornmeal
• 1⁄2 cup semolina
• 1⁄2 cup flour
• 2 teaspoons baking powder
• 1⁄4 cup sugar
• 1⁄4 teaspoon salt
• 1⁄3 cup chopped green onion
• 1⁄4 teaspoon baking soda
• 1⁄4 teaspoon onion powder
• 1 egg
• 1⁄3 cup buttermilk

directions

1. Mix all solid ingredients.
2. Stir in egg and buttermilk until a fairly tight batter forms -- use additional buttermilk if necessary.
3. Fry in hot oil till browned on both sides -- traditionally the oil used to cook the fish.
