This tastes like a corn dog and chili dog all in one. It is from Rachael Ray.

Ingredients Nutrition

  1. Preheat oven to 400°F.
  2. Place a large, oven-safe, nonstick skillet over medium-high heat, add olive oil.
  3. Add the sliced hot dogs to the pan and brown, about 6-8 minutes.
  4. Add the chopped onion and cook for about 3-4 minutes.
  5. Combine molasses, Worcestershire and tomato sauce in a small bowl and add to the skillet.
  6. Add the baked beans and bring up to a simmer.
  7. While the hot dog mixture is coming up to a simmer, mix the two packages of muffin mix together with eggs, melted butter, milk, chili powder, chives and the cheese.
  8. Pour the mix over the top of the hot dog mixture in the skillet.
  9. Place skillet in the oven and bake until cornbread is light golden in color, 12-15 minutes.

I made this for a party and my larger skillet was being taken up by something else. I cooked the hot dog pieces in a smaller skillet and poured them into a large casserole dish when they were done, over the baked beans. I then poured the cornbread mix over the hot dogs and baked beans and baked until the cornbread was done (toothpick clean). This took a little longer to bake more like 30 minutes but it came out great and everyone loved it.
Tip: If you do it this way you might have some cornbread mix leftover.

This was very tasty and I enjoyed the corn bread being layered over the beans. It was just two of us so I used one package of Ball Park bun length hot dogs and I believe a 28 ounce can of Bush Beans. I dont think I would add the chives to the cornbread next time. A nice family meal! Thank you Lainey for posting this recipe, will be making it again. Made and reviewed for the Australia/NewZealand Forums recipe swap #30.

This is a real kid pleaser. It tastes a lot like a corn dog. My 12yo son made it so you can believe it is easy to make. We used homemade baked beans and chicken dogs but the rest was followed to a tee. Thanks for a fun dish. Also, I was thinking for anyone who likes to cook in a dutch oven while camping - this would be a great recipe for that.
