I love this sauce because its thin and doesn't have a base of ketchup or mustard. Its a real barbecue marinade/sauce and made to tenderize any meat before grilling. You may also baste lightly while grilling and then serve some on the side with your meal. I found this recipe in the newspaper years ago.

- 4 teaspoons butter
- 2 medium onions, chopped
- 4 garlic cloves, minced
- 2 jalapeno peppers, seeded and minced
- 2 teaspoons chili powder
- 2 tablespoons ground coriander
- 1 cup prepared strong coffee
- 1/4 cup Worcestershire sauce
- 2 tablespoons soy sauce
- 1 cup tomato sauce
- 1/4 cup cider vinegar
- 1/4 cup lime juice
- 1 cup brown sugar
- 1/2 cup apple cider or 1/2 cup apple juice
- 1Heat butter in large saucepan over medium heat.
- 2Add onions and saute until tender, 3-5 minutes.
- 3Add garlic, jalapenos, chili powder, and coriander.
- 4Saute, stirring occasionally to prevent sticking until vegetables are softened, about 3 minutes.
- 5Add coffee, Worcestershire sauce, soy sauce, tomato sauce, vinegar, lime juice, brown sugar, and cider.
- 6Reduce heat and simmer mixture gently for 30 minutes.
- 7Remove from heat and let cool slightly.
- 8Puree in batches in blender or a food processor until smooth.
- 9This sauce is thin and is in the"Carolina" barbecue style which is more of a marinade/tenderizer.
