  • Divide beef in half (if using) and form into flat patties. Season generously according to personal tastes. Place each patty in the center of a large square of heavy duty aluminum foil. Place a layer of potatoes on top of the meat followed by the carrots, mushrooms, onions and finish with the drained stewed tomatoes. Fold the foil around t he contents to form a tight packet. Cook on a hot grill, turning occasionally for half an hour to forty-five minutes.

  1. We used to do these for Girl Scouts, no tomatos, but a few pats of butter instead. I make them occasionally for the family. I sometimes add pepper strips or zukes to it for more veg. A great creative and thrifty way to make a great meal.

  2. i grew up making these over a campfire when we used to go on family campouts. i was excited to find this recipe a year ago because its so good and brings back good memories. i use fresh carrots, potatoes, garlic and i actually add whole can tomatoes including juice. it keeps everything moist and so delicious. i have also tried ground turkey and it turns out great as well. Thx for posting!!!

  4. Very easy! Used 1 thick pork chop, and some steak seasoning, otherwise everything else stayed the same. Baked in the oven at 350 degrees for about 1 hour, just because the weather was lousy.(Those darn hurricanes!) Can't wait to try chicken next time. Made this for Fall PAC '08. Thanks for dinner!
