I got this recipe from my Mom's first cookbook, "Treasury of Country Recipes" by Land O Lakes. I've tried many other biscuit recipes and this one is by far the best one.

  1. Preheat oven to 425 degrees. In a large mixing bowl stir together flour, baking powder, and salt. Cut in shortening until crumbly. Stir in buttermilk just until moistened.
  2. Turn dough onto a lightly floured surface, knead until smooth, about 1 minute. Roll out dough to 3/4 inch thickness. Cut into 8 (2 inch) biscuits, place 1 inch apart onto a ungreased baking sheet. Bake for 10 to 14 minutes.
