This is from "Best of Finnish Cooking." I haven't made it yet. It's usually served with roasts.

Ingredients Nutrition

  • 1 small rutabaga
  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • 2 teaspoons brown sugar (or pancake syrup)
  • salt and pepper

Directions

  1. Peel the rutabaga and cut it into small cubes, about 1/2-inch.
  2. In a heavy skillet, melt the butter and saute the cubes over medium heat until brown on all sides, stirring often.
  3. Add the sugar or syrup, cover and let cook over low heat, stirring occasionally for 20-30 minutes or until soft. Add salt and pepper to taste. Serve.

Loved this! I'm used to cooking my rutabagas in bacon and water, and this is a wonderful change. DS wasn't fooled....he wouldn't eat them, but I thought they are delicious. They look beautiful too. Made for the Unrulies.

I love rutabaga and this is a very yummy recipe. My son was sure that it was small potatoes pan fried LOL I didn't use salt and pepper. I used brown sugar and unsalted butter. Thanks Debbie :) Made for the Zwizzle Chicks of ZWT
