Feta Cheeseburger for 1

"This is not a burger that you can BBQ as it is a bit fragile. It tastes wonderful, but can be a bit messy. Use either beef or lamb (I love the lamb). You can increase this recipe for as many burgers as you want to make. I add additional cheese slices as well as the feta interior. I like to serve the burger with Recipe #13613. Enjoy"

  • Make two equal sized patties.
  • Mix chili sauce, ketchup, Worcestershire, tarragon, vinegar, garlic, chili, oregano, salt and pepper; mix well.
  • Pour this sauce on one side of your hamburger.
  • Add feta cheese.
  • Place other patty on top and seal edges well.
  • Squeeze a bit of lemon juice over patty.
  • Fry hamburger patty on high heat for about 2 minutes on one side. Flip and turn the heat to medium. Be careful, this patty is a bit fragile. Cook another 2 minutes.
  • Lower heat to low. Add mushrooms to the pan. Cover the pan and continue cooking until patty is well done, about 10 minutes.
  • Meanwhile, toast the bun on the inside. Place patty on bun; garnish hamburger with tomato, onion, lettuce and mustard--or any of your favorite toppings. Serve.

  1. My fiancee has a mother who, in his younger years, experimented with many varities of healthful cooking, chicken and turkey burgers included. Thusly, when he heard my plans to make them last evening, he was a little afraid. Lucky for him, I chose the feta cheese burger to model the meal upon. And I'm so glad I did! I obviously altered the recipe a bit, using ground chicken for the meat. I substituted spicy brown mustard in place of the ketechup, soy sauce for worcersthire (can't ever spell this word!), a spicy chile-garlic paste, and chopped, minced fresh garlic for the garlic-salt. Oh, and the feta cheese I used was already filled with "mediterranean' flavour (i.e., basil, olive and tomato I think). It was fantastic! As he was eating it, he couldn't stop raving about how wonderful it was. This morning when we got up, he told me if I ever felt I wild urge to churn out some chicken burgers, I had his blessing to do so. :) Thanks, Bergy! ps- these burgers go very well with the Baking Stone Fries! UPDATE: These were so good my fiancee has been begging me to make them all week long. We were out of chicken, but had some ground beef available and used that. This time I followed the recipe exactly, and was amazed at the difference. It was still good... my fiancee loved this version just as much, if not more! I didn't care for it quite as much as the chicken version. I thought the beef made everything too greasy, and was almost overpowering. Still, I ate the whole burger, so take that as you will! :) Thanks again!

  2. Oh, Bergy........I couldn't believe how good this was......Unfortunately, it never made it to photo stage....It just fell apart on me......But I still enjoyed it tremendously! I made one change, and that was to add some slices of cucumber to it.....(As though it weren't tall enough, already!) But it added a great fresh crunch, since I didn't use any onion slice....Would I have this again?.........OH, YEAH! Thnx for sharing.......Made for KcK's Big Fat Greek Tag Game.

  3. YUMMMM! I doubled the amounts I didn't have any tarragon vinegar as I didn't have any and and used fresh minced garlic and made them on my indoor grill, so delicious and so much enjoyed, thank you Bergy, these were made for KK's forum Greek tag event

On January 10 2010 I will celebrate 9 years of Life with Zaar. I can't imagine being without it! It has become part of my daily routine. I feel very privileged to be one of the hosts on the Photo Forum. Taking photos of my culinary efforts is a full time hobby and I love it. My friends all know what to expect when they come to dinner "Are you finished taking pictures?" or "Did you get a photo of so & so?" I never let them wait too long and the food is NEVER cold! I now have over 6000 photos on Zaar - some fairly good and some definitely not so good. I am happy to say that practice does help. My roots are in Vancouver BC Canada - a very beautiful city that holds many wonderful memories for me. In 1990, I decided that for my retirement years I may want to settle in a smaller community and found a slice of heaven in the North Okanagan B.C. I love living here but every once in a while I miss the bright city lights, the Broadway shows and some of the small wonderful ethnic restaurants that Vancouver abounds in. That is easily resolved. I just take a trip to the coast, visit with friends for a weekend see a show and feast on Dim Sum or other specialty foods. I am getting a bit long in the tooth but was a very adventurous person. I have river rafted Hell's Gate on the Fraser river, been up in a glider over Hawaii (no not a Hang Glider!), gone hot air ballooning in the Napa Valley & the Fraser Valley, driven dune buggies on the dunes in Oregon, Para sailing in Mexico and tried many other adventurous, challenging, fun things. I have yet to try bungee jumping or sky diving. I may do them yet. I love to travel and experience other cultures. Mexco has been a favorite haunt. I have visited that lovely country many many times. Australia is another favorite as is England! In the past 16 months I have taken off 61 pounds and feel wonderful. I am off all medications and all systems are GO! In years I may be 79 but in spirit I am still in my forties. We are only as old as we allow ourselves to feel. Always think positive. Do something a bit challenging every day & always do something silly every day. Be a kid again! Laugh every day - it is internal jogging.
