  • Cream shortening, sugar and vanilla.
  • Add egg.
  • Sift flour, soda, baking powder and salt.
  • Mix in sifted dry ingredients.
  • Add oats.
  • Drop on pan.
  • Oven: 375 degrees F for 10 minutes.

  1. This yealded 41 cookies and not 12 as the recipe says. Don't know how big they must be made to only give the stated amount. Mine were normal size. They did bake in exactly 10 minutes. They do not spread, the way you drop them on the baking sheet, that is how they will look. They flatten just a little bit. The comments I got from my colleagues (the "judges") were: sort of dusty, a bit bland, a bit too sweet. Some gave them two stars, others four stars, but the four-stars-givers were very much in the minority. Personally I thought they were OK, liked the crunchiness but indeed, they were a bit "dusty". I have tested and tried over 10.000 recipes over the last 30 years on my beloved husband who is now residing in a Long Term Facility with Dementia, so I have to make meals for one, healthy and simple. />My pet peeve is too much garlic in a creamy rich sauce. <br />My favourite cookbook is the one I have made myself over the past 40 years. <br />My interests are knitting Scandinavian socks, sweaters, reading. If I had a month off I would visit our adult children and 4 year old Granddaughter, who resides in British Columbia and Florida, and cook them their favorite meals.</p>
