Famous Oatmeal Cookies

"Oatmeal cookies are my BF's favorite, so I've tried LOTS of different recipes. This is the BEST one!!! I found it online somewhere--these are sort of crunchy, not cakey at all, and not overly sweet. YUM!"

  1. I rarely bake anything but I had the ingredients on hand for this and tried it. Well I jus might be a "baker" now. These were good!! Just like real "homemade" Oatmeal Cookies. Thanks Melismak.

  2. These cookies passed the 3 year old cookie fanatics taste test and will be added to my weekly cookie baking menu. Crunchy and great tasting. Thanks for the recipe!

  3. A pretty good soft oatmeal cookie for those who don't care for raisins. It could use a little spice I think. Thanks for posting.

  4. So disappointed in this cookie recipe. Expectations were high as 28 people gave it 5 stars. I second guessed adding the water & I wished I had not added the water. Fortunately I bake 1 cookie when trying a new recipe so added more flour to compensate. Then saw salt was optional, so didn't add on it. Definitely needed the salt.

  5. This was EXACTLY the recipe I was looking for. Lightly crispy on the outside, but chewy at the same time. I added raisins, chocolate chips and cinnamon. Yummmmmm!Fantastic! Thanks meow!

Tweaks

  1. These turned out so good I had to share! They were crispy and golden on the outside and chewy on the inside.. I tweaked them quite a bit because I am a little crazy like that and? I made it just like it said but I used melted coconut oil added 2 tablespoons of molasses, 2 tsp. Cinnamon 1/4 tsp. Nutmeg and an extra tsp of vanilla because I love real vanilla. I also made them into bar cookies and out them in a 9x13 cake pan and baked them for about 35 to 40 minutes until a toothpick comes out clean. My husband told me they were the best oatmeal raisin bar cookies I have ever made! Thats awesome because I have made a lot of them in my lifetime!

  2. My dad loved them, and that means a lot because he owned a bakery :) The recipe is good as written, but I made some change: I subbed the shortening for 2/3 cup of oil, so they were crunchy (but I like them better that way). If you want them chewy, just bake it 9-10 min. The dough was very sticky (probably due to the oil) so I chilled it. I did add 1tsp of cinnamon and subbed the granulatd sugar for Splenda, but kept the brown sugar (very important in a cookie recipe! :p). Thank you!
