I made a half-recipe, using an sliced but unpeeled granny smith apple and 3 sliced medium size potatoes. I used 1-1/2 T each vinegar & mustard and 2 T honey because I was using a rather sour species of apple. I absolutely loved this. Fruit-and-sausage combinations are a great favorite of mine and I like the vinegar smell and the taste of the sauce. I'd like to try it again with sweet potatoes, but today regular potatoes were what I had on hand.
This was very tasty and easy to make. I let the polish sausage brown a little while I peeled and sliced 3 large brown potatoes. Then I layered it according to the directions and used applesauce on top. I didn't think there would be enough liquid to fully cook the potatoes on top but there was. It strongly smelled of the vinegar while cooking. I stirred it together at the end. I cooked it for about 40 minutes over medium heat. I served this with Uncle Emil’s Czech-Style Sauerkraut and it made a very tasty meal. Made for Zaar Tag.
