This works wonderfully for my recipes and I always have it on hand and make it fresh not to mention its cheaper than buying it by the can. I do agree that its a bit buttery but I use just 1 Tbsp of butter and it comes out perfectly. Thanks for posting!
Great recipe! Much cheaper than store bought, and it works just as well, i needed some in an ice cream recipe and I'll use this from now on.
Not bad at all! The only suggestion I'd like to offer after having tried this out and tasting it, is to cut down by a tbsp. on the butter. With 2 tbsps., the milk becomes very buttery in taste and it was a bit too much for my taste buds to handle. Otherwise, this is a great and handy cooking tip! Thank you very much for sharing it.

Didn't have any evaporated milk for a recipe I was in the middle of making, came here and found yours. So fast and easy to make. To me it tasted close enough to the real thing. Thank you so much for posting. A keeper for sure.
At the last minute I found out I didn't have evaporated milk. So I found this recipe which is perfect. When DH smelled it, he said it smelled the same thing as evaporated milk. And it was perfect in the recipe I made. Thanks ElaineM :) Made for Cookbook tag game

A money saver and a run to the store saver too. I used this in pumpkin pie. I too would probably cut down a bit on the butter, and you only need 12 oz for pumpkin pie, so don't use it all in the recipe. Good basic.
Seems to work well but I personally can't get over the taste of the skim milk when tasting it alone. Still it is a lifesaver when it comes to using it in recipes.Thanks for the recipe.
This was a real life saver. I hardly ever use evaporated milk and when i do keep it on hand, it either expires or I don't need the whole can. This worked great!
