Eggnog Sticks

I tried these cookies for my christmas baking this year and WOW-- they are excellent! They have a wonderful texture and great flavor. Be sure to grate lots of fresh nutmeg on top of the icing for optimum flavor. These do spread, so don't worry about making them into "sticks." They sort of come out looking like those commercially-produced Donut Sticks--about that width and length.

i tried making these today for Easter. i followed the recipe exactly but could not form the dough into sticks. i ended up just making them into cookies and they were delicious. i will try to make them again another time and see if i can find the problem.

  1. Mix dry ingredients.
  2. In another bowl, cream the butter, gradually add sugar, egg, vanilla, and rum.
  3. Gradually add in dry ingredients until mixed.
  4. Shape dough into ½ inch diameter rolls, and cut into 2 inch lengths.
  5. Bake at 350° for 12-15 minutes, and promptly remove to cooling rack.
  6. For frosting: Mix all frosting ingredients, and frost cookies.
  7. To finish, top with generous dusting of nutmeg.
