I rated this 3 stars because it was mediocre. I dont know about the person who reviewed this recipe as "wonderfully light" because mine turned out heavy as a brick. And I am a pretty experienced baker, and bake bread frequently, so I am quite sure I didnt make a mistake. The topping was fine and tasty, but the taste of the cake was very bland and floury, as if there is just too much flour in the recipe. If I were to make this again, I would probably cut the extra 1/4 cup of flour at least. I was amazed that this turned out so tasteless because I even added some butter flavor to the dough because I had a feeling it might need some punch to it. My guy is a big eater and easy to please, and he said it was good, but he also said he would only need one piece because it was so filling. I would say it was like a apple cinnamon topped ciabatta/bagel bread...it had huge holes in it from the yeast so I know it raised enough. I guess if you are someone who likes dense, chewy breads, you might like this...but I would recommend that you double the streusel and maybe add a layer between two halves of dough, because you will find yourself wanting to eat the top and leave the bottom...lol!
A wonderfully light crumb cake with a very delicate cinnamon apple flavour. I'd not tried yeast crumb cake before, and I'm very glad I did! I'm with Lisa, I'm doubling the crumb topping next time and adding a middle layer! Thanks, Kit! Tagged for 1-2-3 Hits.
Very easy to make. This is the first time I've ever made a yeast coffee cake. It had never ocurred to me....I guess I am so sheltered....lol!
This was wonderful. Just as fitting for a breakfast/brunch or as an evening desert a la mode. I doubled the recipe and put in a 9 by 13 pan. Fit fine but the apples were slightly above rim. But as good as my grandmother could make and she was the best. Thanks for this great recipe. It's a keeper,
Oh my! We loved it! My first thought was to make it for special occassions like Christmas or Easter mornings, but it's too good and way too easy for that! This goes in my favorites file! I think next time, I'll try doubling the crumb mixture so I can add a layer in the middle too. Awesome!
