There are 104 recipes for sweet and sour sauce on the Zaar, but none like this one. Lightly battered chicken or pork chunks, green pepper, onions, thinly sliced carrots, and pineapple chunks served with the sauce over rice make a complete meal.
- 1⁄3 cup rice vinegar (do not substitute for best results)
- 4 tablespoons brown sugar
- 1 tablespoon ketchup
- 1 teaspoon soy sauce
- 2 teaspoons cornstarch
- 4 teaspoons water
- Mix the vinegar, brown sugar, ketchup, and soy sauce together and bring to a boil in a small pot. Mix together the cornstarch and water, add to the other ingredients and stir to thicken.
- For a thicker sauce, increase the cornstarch to 5 teaspoons.
Modified this recipe, garlic worcester sauce chili flakes salt pepper. How good is that. Mmm. Delicious.
This sauce is good but not as great as I thought it would be. I'll give it a second chance and make it again soon. Thanks for the recipe.
I made this tonight when I realized that I didn't have any bottled sweet and sour sauce for the sweet and sour pork dish that I had already started preparing. It took about 7 minutes and I had a fabulous sauce that cost a lot less than the store bought stuff! I did increase the amounts to make .75 cup and it was the perfect amount to mix in with 1.5 lbs of diced pork, 3 cups of peppers and onions and a can of pineapple chunks, which was equal to 6 servings. Thank you for posting! This is now my go-to sweet and sour sauce!
