Good and easy cornbread

Sorry, but this cornbread turned out extremely dense and dry. After reading other recipes, perhaps it's because there's no baking powder or soda? I don't know, but no one in my family liked this because it was so dry.

  1. Heat oven to 425°F.
  2. Grease the inside of your 8-inch cast iron skillet and place it in the oven.
  3. In a medium or large bowl, beat your egg and add milk and oil.
  4. Stir in sugar, then cornmeal, just until moistened.
  5. The batter should be lumpy- do not overmix.
  6. Carefully remove your skillet from the oven and pour in the batter.
  7. Return to oven.
  8. Bake for 20-30 minutes.
  9. The top of your cornbread should be golden-brown and a toothpick inserted in the center will come out clean when the bread is done.
  10. Serve warm.
