I have not made this particular recipe, but it sounds very much like a recipe I was given that we call Cheesy Potatoes. ..because I don't want to call them by the name that was given for them, which is Funeral Potatoes. The following is how they got their namesake: Funeral potatoes (also known as Mormon funeral potatoes) are a traditional potato hotdish, or casserole, that originated in the Intermountain West region of the United States. People called this dish funeral potatoes because the casserole is commonly served as a side dish during traditional after-funeral dinners, such as those planned by members of Relief Society (an LDS auxiliary organization). Funeral potatoes are also served at other social gatherings, such as potlucks, typically in areas with a significant Latter-day Saint population in the Mormon Corridor . The dish usually consists of hash browns or cubed potatoes, cheese (cheddar or Parmesan), onions, cream soup (chicken, mushroom, or celery) or a cream sauce, sour cream, and is topped with butter and corn flakes or crushed potato chips. Ingredients in other variations include cubed baked ham, frozen peas, or broccoli florets. So yeah....very close and VERY GOOD and never anything left over!

Loved this this recipe. Doubled it and substituted cauliflower for the 2nd pound of tater tots to make it more healthy. Substituted crushed cornflake crumbs instead of potato chips. Will make again.

We really enjoyed this recipe. The potato chips were so greasy, so the second time we made it we left off the chips, divided the cheese and put half of it on top. We cut the amount of butter in half because we added chopped roasted jalapenos and crumbled bacon. We also broke up the tots a little before mixing with the other ingredients. We liked that texture better in the finished dish. Thank you!

I made this casserole this past weekend for a large gathering of people and it was a HUGE hit! I doubled up the recipe so there would be enough for a large group. It ended up being everyone's favorite dish and I got several compliments on it. I used cream of chicken soup and left the celery out, I also did not put chips on the top of it and I'm glad that I didn't because it was great the way it was. I definitely recommend this recipe!

So add cooked crumbled drained beef and cut the butter down. Still very good. I always add ground beef and I always seem to forget the butter. Still tastes Great!

This is actually quite good. I have been looking for one without the ground beef in it. I did add one can of diced green chilies to it though. My husband and son llike them in everything..lol. I also added a can of french style green beans well drained. Thank you for sharing this recipe. I will use it over and over again. I did leave off the potato chips on the top, however.

My husband & I liked this -very crunchy. I used baked lays original for chips (which was totally awesome as they are not greasy!), mild cheddar and red onion. I got two words for this recipe... Yummy & Crunchy. Will try the breakfast one next.
