      This is one of the first things I made as a kid, too. I've made it using canned apple pie filling and adding chopped walnuts. I mix 1/2 cup walnuts into the dry cake mix and sprinkle that over the fruit. Then I sprinkle the rest of the walnuts on top of that. And instead of adding the margarine to the mix, I just drizzle it over the walnuts on top. The combination of the butter and juices bubbling up make the topping crunchy.

      This was the very first thing I learned how to make (after the obligatory spaghetti boiling lesson) and I've never forgotten it! My aunt was the person who gave me this recipe and the paper is worn like no other! Really a great recipe and it LOOKS pretty too! Like a maze of cherries and cake "clouds" :) Thanks for posting so I don't have to type it in!

      This is a very tasty cake and really goes very well when topped with a dollop of vanilla ice cream. I've made this more number of times than I can remember and it doesn't last very long in my house. Kids just adore this delight!
