I remember my grandma making fried pies just like this method. She would do whatever fruit or veggie was available, and fry them. She used a saucer and cut around it, and followed this method of putting in the filling, folding them over, and deep frying them. I made them many times for my kids when they were growing up. Matter of fact, the peoplein my church who are 60 and older have a group called "senior Saints" and they either go out to a restaurant, or have a pot luck at church, and always, one of them bring fried pies, sprinkled with a touch of confectioners sugar.
