Very good and so easy to put together. The only thing I would do differently next time is leave out the Worcestershire sauce. I just didn't care for it in this soup. Other than that we loved it. Thanks for sharing. Made for "The Love Train" event 2012
Loved this!!! Thank you for sharing, I will be making it again. (-:
This was a very good soup! I used a thick slice of french bread on each one and it was just delicious! I did add a little more Worcestershire sauce just as you suggested. Will make again! Thanks for sharing!
I love love love this recipe. I made this for my family and DS, the proclaimed onion hater, ate all his and was trying to steal his sisters....lol. I will be making this often as we all loved it. Thank you so much for positng.
Simple ingredients and instructions - yummy flavour! We read all the reviews first and, like others, also added extra W. sauce (3 Tbsp total). Instead of mozzarella we used Gruyere and instead of sourdough we used a french baguette...it was what we had on hand. Like Karen we did not butter the bread. Next time we may try adding some wine, but it actually isn't needed...this is a lovely, simple soup recipe that we will definitely make again - Thank you so much for sharing!!!
Delicious & easy! I added salt because I didn't use canned beef broth; I used homemade. I also added a dash of nutmeg and fresh ground pepper. I did use MUCH more worcestershire sauce, probably about 2 tablespoons. I didn't butter the bread to save on fat, but no one missed it. Thanks for sharing this tasty soup recipe.
This soup was delicious! I made it last night for my family on a blustery day, and it hit the spot, for sure! So easy to make, only difference was that I didn't have quite enough consomme, and I used roasted onion bread (!!!) instead of sourdough. But everything else unchanged. Love it - definitely a keeper!
This was so easy & so delicious. I browned the onions until they were very dark (about 30 minutes)and that gave the broth an extremely rich taste and a nice dark color. Will use again - Thanks
There is no reason to go out to get restaurant quality French onion soup. Just follow the directions and you're there. We weren't too sure whether to add the can of water as the soup directions indicated, but we did. It was marvelous.
This was easy and very good. I made very few alterations. I added a bay leaf, extra Worcestershire and a splash of white wine. I used Gruyere cheese but will use mozzarela nest time. I had French Bread. I will buy a wider bread for the next time since the cheese sits on top of the bread and my bread was small so some of the cheese sunk into the soup instead of remaining on top. Thanks for posting!
