Easy "drop" Doughnuts

My husband can remember standing on a chair at the table to be tall enough to watch his Grandma make doughnuts. Unfortunately I can't find her recipe but this one is from a different German Grandma and sounds much easier than what he describes to me! From Good Ol Cotton Pickin Recipes, Burton Cotton Gin, Burton, TX

• Prep Time: 30 mins
• Cook Time: 0 mins

Ingredients:

Yield: 1 batch

• 2 cups all-purpose flour , sifted
• ¼ cup sugar
• 1 tablespoon baking powder
• 1 teaspoon salt
• 1 teaspoon nutmeg
• ¼ cup vegetable oil
• ¾ cup milk
• 1 egg
• 1 teaspoon vanilla
• oil (for frying)

Directions:

1. Mix flour, sugar, baking powder, salt and nutmeg until thoroughly blended.
2. Add oil, milk and egg and mix well.
3. Drop by spoon into hot oil.
4. Fry until light brown on both sides turning once.
5. Drain well on paper towels or brown paper bag.
6. Turn in or sprinkle with plain, powdered or cinnamon sugar while hot.

Wonderful! And so easy! I grew up with my mom making doughnuts every Sat. morning with canned biscuits. I loved them! And now living in SA, I can't get the canned biscuits. I have tried many doughnut recipes and some of them have been very good but I was looking for something easy and delicious and now I have found it! Thanks! Made for ZWT6.

These were simple to make, and similar to cake doughnuts. I was amazed at the amount of oil that they absorbed! I got 18 doughnuts that grew to twice their original size while frying. For ZWT6 N.
