  1. Preheat oven to 375°.
  2. In a sauce pan, heat oil to medium high heat. Add garlic and onions, and reduce the heat to medium low to sweat until translucent.
  3. Return pan to medium high heat. Brown beef and sausage. Drain and return to skillet.
  4. Stir in marinara sauce and water. Remove meat mixture from heat.
  5. In a small bowl, combine ricotta, parmesan and basil.
  6. In 9x13-inch baking dish, layer one-third of the meat mixture, half of the uncooked lasagna pieces, half the ricotta mixture, and half the mozzarella cheese. Repeat layers once, ending with meat mixture.
  7. Cover tightly with foil. Bake 1 hour.
  8. Uncover. Sprinkle with additional parmesan cheese, if desired.
  9. Let stand 10+ minutes before serving.

I made this for the family... They loved it! Even my wife had to give me kuddos. I will say that the prep time should show at least an hour. I did swap small curd cottage cheese for ricotta and added a shake or two of oregano to the meat mixture near the end of the frying process. This recipe is a keeper and I've now created a cookbook.

Very skeptical when first trying this recipe. Have always boiled the noodles ahead of time, and definitely understand the sticky part. However, this turned out excelent. One addition, I added cottage cheese to my recipe as my daughters love this and it softens the taste of the ricotta cheese, too which they are not as fond off!
