directions

  • Preheat oven to 425.
  • In large bowl, with fork, mix flour, baking powder and salt. With pastry blender or 2 knives used scissor fashion, cut in shortening until mix resembles coarse crumbs; add milk. With fork, quickly mix just until mixture forms soft dough that leaves the sides of the bowl.
  • Turn dough onto lightly floured surface; knead 6 to 8 strokes to mix thouroughly.
  • With floured rolling pin, lightly roll out dough, lifting rolling pin near edges to keep dough evenly thick. Roll dough ½ inch thick.
  • Cut biscuits into 1 inch wide strips and into square (or rectangle, depending on how big you like them) biscuits. Place biscuits onto ungreased cookie sheet nearly touching. Bake for about 20 minutes or until golden.

  1. These biscuits were very easy. The dough is also stiff enough to cut traditionally if you don't want square biscuits. I thought they were a tad salty though, which is okay for cheese or sausage biscuits, but maybe not for jelly or honey. Next time I will reduce the salt a little.
