Here's a simple recipe made with ingredients one usually has on hand. Not too sweet or spicy, you can adjust recipe to your personal taste. I ran across this recipe years ago, when I had run out of sauce and didn't want to make a trip to the store.
- 1 cup catsup
- 1 cup water
- 1⁄4 cup cider vinegar
- 1 tablespoon sugar
- 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1⁄2 teaspoon celery seed
- ground red pepper (optional) or bottled hot pepper sauce, to give the sauce a little heat, you may add a little (optional)
- In a small saucepan combine all ingredients. Bring to a boil; reduce heat and simmer uncovered for 30 minutes.
- Baste grilled meats with the sauce and serve extra sauce on the side.
