A recipe from my mother's collection - light and quick to make.
- 1 cup flour
- 1 1⁄2 teaspoons baking powder
- 1⁄2 teaspoon salt
- 1 egg, well beaten
- 1⁄3 cup milk
- 2 tablespoons shortening, melted or 2 tablespoons cooking oil
- Sift dry ingredients.
- Combine milk, egg, and oil and add to stew (should have at least 3 cups of liquid -–add boiling water if necessary).
- Place cover on pot and cook for 15 minutes without removing cover.
- Serve at once.
These turned out perfectly. I may have to stop buying Bisquick all together.
These were *really* good! I grew up on the Bisquick variety, but haven't had much luck making those, since I never seem to have baking mix in the house. I was hesitant as this recipe had an egg in it, but this recipe was just as easy as the Bisquick kind, and honestly had a lot more flavor! I'll be using this again. Thanks!
Tried these with a beef stew we made and am glad we did. Turned out very well and liked the taste and texture. Thanks very much.
