"This is an adopted recipe that received rave reviews when I tested it at a local party. I served it with Triscuits, as it is a hearty dip and needs a sturdy cracker."

  1. This was great!! Everyone loved it! Thanks! I also rinsed my beef... Followed to a T. Doubled just fine!

  2. This is mandatory for all occasions at my house. Instead of crackers I use cocktail rye bread and I cut out the garlic because of the saltiness. It did help and nobody knew

  3. This is mandatory for my Xmas Open House. Sometimes I replace garlic powder with fresh garlic, finely chopped and slightly sauted. Have seen similar recipe that also had 1/4 cup chopped toasted pecans. Thinned it a tad with alittle milk. I serve it warm.

  4. Great as a cheese ball - just omit the sour cream! Also good if you add a can of chopped black olives and some chopped, sauteed mushrooms - yummy!

  5. Chip/dried beef dip was part my youth. This is great for my Keto lifestyle. This is the recipe what I are as a kid and loved I love making the dip vs. buying it at the deli. No unknown ingredients. Plus in today's economy so much cheaper. The last time I bought it, it was $10 a pound!

Tweaks

  1. If this is a duplicate please forgive me. I think my first tweak disappeared. We soak the dried beef in hot water for 20 to 30 minutes. Changing the water once during that time will eliminate even more salt. Rinse and dry the meat and make the dip as directed.

  2. I love this dip and serve it when ever I need a great quick go to app. Always soak the dried beef, I too always change out the water to help get rid of the salt. I have added so many things to this dip, served it hot in winter and cold in summer. Toasted sliced or grounded almonds, chopped. water chestnuts, thinly sliced celery and/ or green peppers,Pinch of pepper, sugar to helps bring out all the flavors. You have to back off the sour cream some, due to the water contents in any veggies you may use.I chill it for at least 3 hours if served cold, mixing in. Couple of times (if I can remember to! ??

  4. Yummy, but salty despite the fact I rinsed the dried beef and dried it on a paper towel. I used Greek Yogurt in place of sour cream and added a few drops of Worcestershire Sauce. Since Kat won't eat onions, I substituted onion powder and that worked well. Thanks!

  5. Melissa this was just wonderful. I used 3 green onions chopped very fine, and a couple of tablespoons of sour cream and fresh minced garlic in place of the garlic powder and it was the first to go on our Christmas snack bar. Thanks a lot for this great recipe.
