Throw away the canned version this one is just as good, actually better I think. I prefer the real thing vs. Diet Dr. Pepper, but either one would work, I think. My Sister-In-Law contributed this to our family cookbook.
- 1 1⁄2 lbs lean ground beef
- 1 garlic clove, minced
- 1 medium onion, chopped
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 3⁄4 cup Dr. Pepper cola
- 6 ounces tomato paste
- 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
- 3 drops hot pepper sauce
- Brown meat, breaking into small pieces, add garlic, onion and salt.
- Cook 5 minutes.
- Add remaining ingredients, stir well.
- Simmer 20 minutes or until thick.
- Spoon onto toasted buns.
We liked this and will probably make again. After reading the other reviews, I add a bit of mustard and chili powder to taste.
This was pretty good. It makes a sweet type of sloppy joe, so add some hot sauce if you like a little kick. We enjoyed it and I plan to make it again.
I made this tonight for dinner and it was pretty good. Something different from my usual Man'wich sloppy joes. It did seem like it was missing something so next time I may use more hot pepper sauce or perhaps some chili pepper or something to kick it up a bit. Thanks for posting!
