We call it a Hot Toddy around these parts. It was standard treatment for our worst colds. I didn't know about inhaling the steam, however. We would drink it, sweetened with some honey, and bundle up in blankets afterward to "sweat the cold out." It does work.

I have a major sinus problem right now - caught it from somewhere and was feeling pretty sorry for myself. My face felt like it might explode and I had a major headache, and couldn't breathe through my nose..... I found this recipe and whipped it up. I breathed it in for about 10 minutes and can breathe! My headache is GONE! So is that weird "foggy" feeling. I then strained out the bits from the muddling cuz they were all floating around in there, and am reclining having myself a tasty warm drink! It's delicious! I feel so much better (NO, I'm not drunk on the bourbon!!!)! Thank you sooo much for posting this. The spices really help I think.
